We used water absorbing crystals (2 Tablespoons soaked in a gallon ziploc bag half filled with water and food coloring) in primary colors and left to expand. We cut off the top few inches of the bottle and inverted it as a funnel, layering the red, yellow, blue, and a bit of red at the top to create purple. The secondary colors are emerging as the colors bleed.
