What inspires you about the Reggio Emilia Approach?
A great new school that opened up in April of 2008 in Carlsbad, A North San Diego County community. I began my journey with them (Aspirations,School Of Learning)

I dabbled with the teachings of reggio inspired learning with other schools but never realized it was a glimpse of the reggio inspired ways of teaching. They just didn't call it Reggio, as they use a variety of philosophies..
About Me:
I am a teacher of young children since 1994, when i received a B.S. degree in Child Development. I love the joy and excitement that children give willingly and the awe when they learn and grasp a new idea.

I am very excited to be a part of a great new school starting its journey in the world of Reggio inspired teaching

I have a wonderful husband, Reggie, of 7 years coming up in August 2009. we have a cat and no children. My children are the ones that inspire and touch me as an educator each year. My 1st students are now entering high school in the fall. I can't believe it. i live and play in my north county community of Carlsbad and love to hang out and be with my hubby when not working or with my girl friends visiting.

For my second year, i am going to focus the year on a long term, school year length, study on "line and color". i am on the look out for new ideas for making a dynamic classroom environment with homemade activities such as a small light table. I would love feedback and ide… Continue

That sounds like an interesting way to work. I think there can be tension between the art teacher's plans to introduce materials and to work directly with the children, separately from work being done in the classroom, and the classroom teacher's work with children and materials, and how they might connect to projects. I am curious about how classroom and studio teachers collaborate on projects.

does the art teacher work full time at the school? How does she manage her time working with so many children?

Who is your studio art teacher? Did she or he work closely with you on the preparation of the pieces?

The art show looks like a big event. Was the work auctioned off, or sent home with the artist later?

Welcome, Abbey. I was in Encinitas in February. Please tell us more about what you meant by "a glimpse of the reggio following."
