Hi Sarah,
Thanks for the thought. That table is too small and light for them to build upon. It is too easy to bump it and have a disaster. It is only a 2' square parsons table. It is easy for them to move around, though, so comes in handy in many ...
What inspires you about the Reggio Emilia Approach?
The care with which the thinking and relationships of young children are nurtured as well as the beauty and trust that pervade the schools.
About Me:
I taught four-year-olds for five happy years at the Bergen Family Center, a public, one year, preschool in Englewood, New Jersey. I am part of a dual English/Spanish immersion team. I start working in a pre-k and kindergarten school in Fall of 2009. My previous career was as a Broadway Stage Manager.
What age are you teaching? Is it a private/public school? daycare? Are you bound by any curriculum?standards? How do you fit in the time necessary to dialog with your team teacher? That seems to be our most pressing issue at the moment.
How funny that you just left me a comment! I noticed it because I was lurking around your info. I love the photos that you've posted and was wondering where you taught. I'm piecing together what your classroom must look like and wish I could come play!
Hi Marianne
I guess I just have a desire to see as much as I can! I do stay places for a long while tho.
I actually read a book that inspired me to pack it all in and leave Canada, way way back. I had a gut feeling, and went with it. Never looked back - absolutely no regrets.
I went to Reggio Emilio two years ago. It was like nothing I'd ever experienced before for professional development. Everything I deeply believed about children was there - reinforced my belief in my beliefs. I'd taken a brief breather from early years and spent the last three years teaching middle school. I have now been able to return to early years. The new admin, in the past three years, has encouraged the philosophy of Reggio. I am piloting a team teacher program in kindergarten. Any experience with Reggio style team teaching?
yes, thanks I have checked the quotations - and they are great - might just add a few of my own during this process!!
I am wanting more information on Loris Malaguzzi BEFORE he started up with the Reggio Emilia Approach - more about his studies in Rome, and his childhood. What is in his pockets? Those wonderful deep pockets they like to equip children with in Reggio.
Does anyone know of some research that reflects on a Reggio education having long lasting effects. Is there any research on the children in Reggio Emilia - those who attend the Reggio Approach schools and those who do not. Is there a difference in the kind of child that attends these schools? Economic/social/disability?
I want this to be done right so that it can really stand to any kind of question thrown at it - I need to pick holes at it a little to see how it works and to make more sense of it - to be able to adapt it to my Stockholm nursery and the city centre and the three floors it has to be on - not optimal - but how can we do this?
My essay has to bring in how I work too!! It all has to intertwine.
It really interesting.
Hello Marianne,
My colleague and I try to be attentive to everything they say or do. We document it so it can help us get to know them better as individuals and enable us to provide them with activity that would be of interest to them and help them learn about the world around them.
Each teacher has a different approach to the similar content so we try to focus on building the children's understnding in matter that compliments each other and helps the children to deepen their understanding and expand their thinking.
Hi Marianne, Sorry for the long delay in response I haven't been on for a while.
My class has one English and one Japanese teacher and bi-lingual learning is happening in both languages, what ever w do in one language we follow up with the other, we have found it's a great way to ensure each child fully understands and can use the labguage their stronger in to support the other
