Most blog engines provide the admin the ability to control the amount of conversation. If you choose "moderate comments" then only comments you approve would be public. Then you start to get into the realm of "acceptable" comments, which is a sti...

If your computer has a built-im mic, you can use that. You can also buy a mic for the computer at computer stores. I believe you can use a telephone as well.

I love this idea! What do you use to record the audio?

I have been exploring the idea of doing a blog to keep parents up to date on what is happening in my classroom. My director has always hesitated because of the control factor over comments. What if parent use it as a forum to critisize our school?...

Ning Fun Begins

I'm trying out this blog post feature.

We have had a few people sign up. I encourage you to explore and experiment.

Sonya and I were trying to enable an instant messaging "gadget" but couldn't quite get it to work.

See you on the forum.

Flickr has the creative commons, users there may put some of their photos into a giant pool for everyone to use, free of charge.

Hi

I am in the process of writing a lecture for a group of work collegues and would like to use some pictures for a power point presentation. Do you know where i can acess this information?

I am trying to inform my collegues about the benefits of Reggio and the impact it can have on the children and their families. I studied Reggio for 3 years whilst at university and found it so inspiring that i am now trying to implement it into the children's centre where i work.

Hope you are able to assist me.

I studied early childhood education as part of my undergraduate work. I now have a four year old. I co-started this ning with Sonya, who is a Reggio professional consultant. I am an academic computing consultant at Vassar College, but working with young children is still something I care about.

I am really curious about what led to you this page. What is an 'Instructional Technologist"? Do you teach young children?

Very cool.
Sounds like you are a great resource for your colleagues.
The things you can do for free/cheap are absolutely amazing.

We moved a few weeks ago and are settling in. I'm excited about the beginning of the school year, glad to have Azalea back in school. Thinking about starting a ning for the Aza's pre-K class but I'm getting 0 administrative support so I'm reluctant to try...

Hi Baynard,
I just wanted to let you know your provocations are having an effect on many areas of my life and practice. I now have wikis for a group at my son's school, for the staff at my school, and for the people in mentoring relationships at my school. I've also told several groups of teachers about them. Like dropping a pebble in a pond...

I hope all is well with you and your family.

I like pbwiki because it is easy to get started editing.
You can also make a .pdf of a page very simply.
When you set up the wiki, you can make it "private".
I think this setting is permanent (i.e. it stays private forever).
If you want to overwhelm yourself with possible wiki features, visit the http://www.wikimatrix.org/
You might also use google docs as it is more private by design, and supports all the things you are thinking of.

Hey Baynard,
I need a wiki for some research data that I am helping one of the professors analyze! You have any suggestions as to where I should start? I want to paste a portion of a transcript and allow only her and I to see it. I also want us to be able to add our thoughts around this and link in articles or interesting things. Do you know of a site that might be good for us?

I think whatever you go with, give it a trial run with a few friends if you have the time. Then get the parents to sign off on it. It sounds like you have a solid idea of the fundamentals needed to protect your students.

Let me know how it goes.
